Playoff systems kill sports. The Sox should be a 100 win machine, but they certainly don't need to be. Why try for the division when you can buy enough talent to guarantee the wildcard? And come November, if the Sox play their heart out for 11 games, no one will care. They'll be champions, despite not giving a shit for three months. Bud Selig thinks adding a playoff team will inject life into the playoff race. That's like lowering the drinking age to combat teen pregnancy. Make the games matter.
